Sixties Cinema - starring fantasy femmes, film fatales, drive-in dream girls and teenage beach movies from the 60's

Yesterday, I recommended The Pleasure Seekers as being one of Pamela Tiffin's best films of the 60s. Check out a great tribute with lots of photos to this movie on Marquise's Corner at www.marquisescorner.blogspot.com.

Behind-the-scenes, it was no pleasure for Pamela making this movie. She actually seeked a way out of it but was contractually obliged to do it. Ann-Margret and Carol Lynley were aloof towards her (Shame on you Carol! I luv ya but you should have been nicer to our Pamela), Tony Franciosa (Pamela's love interest) acted like a maniac even threatening to punch out the director (70-year-old Jean Negulesco), Gardner McKay wouldn't speak with anyone, and that Latin hottie Andre Lawrence made it known to all that he would do ANYTHING or ANYONE to further his ambitions to become a star. Only Brian Keith was a pleasure to work with, per Pamela.

When filming finally wrapped to Pamela's pleasure, a billing war erupted among the seekers. Despite her husband's prodding to fight back, Pamela refused to stoop that low as the egos took over and the stars battled it out through their agents. The outcome? Pamela received 5th billing behind Ann-Margret, Tony Franciosa, Carol Lynley and Gardner McKay! Well folks that was 60s Hollywood in a starlet-eat-starlet world.

Wow great behind the scenes stories on the set of "The Pleasure Seekers" Tom!

I'm so sorry to here Pamela had such a hard time making this movie, she was absolutely my favorite in this, and that's saying alot because I love me some Ann-Margret. You should have added a shame on you to Ann-Margret in your blog also for being aloof to Pamela. It sounds like she didn't deserve that kind of treatment. She sounds genuinely sweet.

Tony Franciosa is a jerk for wanting to hit a 70 year old man! Gardner McKay is so wooden in thismovie that in my opinion it must have been a blessing to the rest of the cast he only spoke when he was reading his lines.
André Lawrence was most definitely a hottie but his quest for stardom via doind anything or anyone didn;t get him anywhere..did he do anything else that was noteworthy after this? Too bad they didn't film him in swimming trunks in the beach scenes..that would have been a sight for sore eyes..LOL

Great to hear that Pamela didn't stoop to the level of her co-stars in the billing wars. In my opinion if Fox were to have billed the movie "correctly", Pamela would have most definitely been billed third behind Ann-Margret and Carol Lynley. I didn't even know who Gardnerr McKay was before seeing this movie so I question his and Lawrence's billing before Tiffin.

The billing of "and Pamela Tiffin" is a nice touch though and sets her apart from the rest of the cast.

Your Pamela stories are truly fascinating and I'm looking forward to the arrival of the "Fantasy Femmes" book to read more about her!

Thanks for the plug to my blog via your site!

Thanks Tom for the behind-the-scenes look at "The Pleasure Seekers"!

Too bad Pamela didn't have a better time making this flick. It sure doesn't show on screen though. What a trouper!

I have to add a shame on you to Ann-Margret as well, as much as I love her I'm quite surprised she was aloof to Tiffin.

I can't believe Tony Franciosa went so far as to threaten a 70 year old man, what a jerk! And maybe it's a good thing Gardner McKay spared everyone by not socializing with them...he comes off as a wooden and a big bore.

André Lawrence's goal to do anything or anyone to acheive fame fell way short, I've never heard of him before or since. Though he is hot. What a waste, they should've filmed him in swim trunks during his beach scenes with Ann-Margret.

If 20th would have billed this movie correctly Pamela would have been billed third, after Ann-Margret and Carol Lynley. I mean really, Gardner McKay's name had no business being billed before hers, and for that matter neither did Tony Franciosa's.

I'm glad she didn't stoop to the billing wars her co-stars wer embroiled in, proving that she's one classy lady.

**I had posted a comment to your blog, but somehow it didn't show up. This is my second attempt so if my comments appear twice please accept my apologies in advance**
